Put Your Armor to Good Use

Can you list the Armor of God? Seems like it is one of those things we learn early on in Sunday School. If you’re unfamiliar with what I’m talking about, take a look at Ephesians 6:10-20. Paul describes important elements that God provides for the believer to stand against the onslaught of the wicked. The belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of His Word are all essential to standing against the attacks Christians face daily; however, I began to wonder if I am actively using these tools as God intended. While thinking on this I stumbled on something in this passage.

If you think through each piece of the armor, not one item is dependent on my ability to wear or wield them. Does that make sense? To help you get the picture, think of a knight as he suits up to fight in hand-to-hand combat. Each piece of armor is to serve a purpose, typically to block a blow from his opponent. The armor must also be fitted or adjusted to allow the knight to move freely and quickly. The weapon he chooses must be one that he has developed a skill to use. When all is ready, however, the knight would be foolish to think that wearing the armor and holding the weapon is enough. So how does God intend us to use this armor?

Starting at verse 18 in Ephesians 6, I believe we get our answer! The command that demands movement our part is to pray and speak God’s Word. When we obey those commands while donning the precious armor God provides, some rather amazing things can happen. Ultimately, we must recognize that we are not capable of doing anything on our own. Only God is able to overcome. He has given us the opportunity to be vessels for His service. Don’t miss out on that amazing opportunity!

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might,” while you continue to…

Walk in Him
